International Health Insurance
International health insurance (or international medical insurance) is for those leaving their home country for more than a year. If you’re a U.S. citizen, this coverage is only available if you live outside the U.S. for more than six months each year and plan to leave the U.S. within 30 days. At renewal, you’ll need to be abroad again.
Foreign nationals coming to the U.S. should ideally apply before leaving their home or current country of residence, as it's more difficult to buy coverage once you're here. These plans typically do not cover pre-existing conditions but include:
- Hospital, doctor, and prescription charges
- Emergency medical evacuation
- Emergency reunion
- Common carrier accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D)
- Return of mortal remains
The plans below go through full underwriting, meaning you can be declined for coverage. ACA rules do not apply to these international plans.
